➽ Designer
Ingmar Relling (1920-2002) was a notorious Scandinavian designer who created a series of functional furniture designs. He started his career at Rastad & Relling design studio in 1947 before establishing his own studio in Sykkylven in 1950.
In 1965, Ingmar Relling designed his greatest creation: the Siesta chair. (Even the White House was furnished with Ingmar Relling’s Siesta.)
Today, the Siesta chair stands out as an internationally recognized classic and a Norwegian icon.
➽ Maker
Westnofa is one of the great success stories of the Norwegian furniture industry. Norwegian furniture gained international recognition from the brilliant guidance of export company Westnofa. The name was derived from the combination of 'WEST Norway FActories' and was formed in the late 1950s by a collaboration of the countries leading furniture manufacturers. The goal was to combine forces to market and export locally produced furniture. The most iconic design from Westnofa is undoubtedly the Siesta Chair by Ingmar Relling. Its curvaceous profile and elegant form were embraced throughout the world.
